Hosted RabbitMQ

RabbitMQ Message Broker for IoT Projects

More and more firms are seeing the value of using message queues in their IoT projects. Message queuing is a style of service-to-service communication, where applications can communicate by sending messages to each other. Message queues for IoT are designed to provide a lightweight publish/subscribe messaging transport. Queues enable your application to have a low power usage, send minimized data packets, and distribute information efficiently to one or many receivers.

RabbitMQ is a high performance multi-protocol message broker supporting both MQTT and AMQP amongst others. While MQTT is a simple solution for low power devices, AMQP is a secure and reliable protocol with low overhead making it perfect for Internet of Things applications.

However, instead of setting up and configuring your own RabbitMQ server, you can hand it over to us. CloudAMQP is the world's largest provider of hosted RabbitMQ servers, and we have helped over 20000 of customers since our journey began back in 2012. You can try out our service whenever you want for free. To set up a server is easy; you click a button and we handle the rest.

AMQP for IoT

AMQP is a secure and reliable protocol, with low overhead, making it perfect for Internet of Things applications. It's a more advanced protocol than MQTT, more reliable and have better support for security. AMQP do also have features like flexible routing of messages to queues, it provide durable and persistent queues, clustering, federation and high availability queues. The downside is that it's a more verbose protocol on the wire - depending on how you implement you solution.

MQTT for IoT

MQTT is another protocol designed for IoT. Its advertised benefits for IoT only matter for extremely low power devices. MQTT is very wire-efficient, it has strong focus on minimal wire footprint. It require less effort to implement MQTT on a client than AMQP - because of its simplicity. However, MQTT lacks authorisation and error notifications from server to clients.

"We rely on CloudAMQP for our core messaging backend, sending tens of millions of messages per day. Their support has been really responsive and helpful whenever we've needed it."

Justin Zhu

"Travis CI streams hundreds of build log chunks per second and we can rely on CloudAMQP to deliver them. We use several RabbitMQ clusters from CloudAMQP, and both the infrastructure and the service have been rock-solid."

“Before the migration, we saw CPUs and RAM working overtime just to handle the requests. When we switched to LavinMQ, the load dropped to almost zero. We even checked for errors, but it turned out LavinMQ was simply that efficient.”
